The Second Reunion of the Bokor Steering Committee
Thursday, June 11, 2026 — Eden Voar Resort, Kep Province, Cambodia
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Bokor Steering Committee convened its second reunion at the peaceful Eden Voar resort in Kep Province. The gathering took place under the authority and spiritual guidance of His Excellency Bishop Olivier Schmitthausler, Apostolic Vicar of Phnom Penh.
A highlight of the meeting was the solemn presentation of the Master Plan for the restoration of the Church of Mount Bokor by its lead architect, Anton Tung. In a powerful and inspiring presentation, Mr. Tung revealed the fruits of years of study, research, and prayerful discernment. The complete Master Plan was formally submitted to the committee in a beautifully designed book, embodying the depth of commitment and artistic sensitivity brought to this sacred project.
The committee then discussed the plan in depth under the Bishop’s authority. Members explored its implications for each phase of the work, ensuring fidelity to the project’s four pillars — Heritage, Religion, Culture, and Ecology — and to the core principles of conservation: authenticity, minimal intervention, reversibility, distinction between old and new, and ecological responsibility. The discussions affirmed a shared vision of restoring Bokor not merely as a monument, but as a living sanctuary where faith can flourish anew amid the mountain’s timeless beauty.
In a moment of celebration and hope, the new website www.bokorchurch.com was presented and its official launch was joyfully marked. This digital platform will serve as a vital bridge, inviting pilgrims from near and far to discover the story of Bokor, its history of suffering and resurrection, and the ongoing call to participate in its renewal. Through words, images, and resources in multiple languages, the website extends the reach of this project of faith, heritage, and renewal to the universal Church and beyond.
This second reunion marks a decisive milestone on the journey toward the centenary of Bokor Church in 2028. As the mists of Mount Bokor often veil and then reveal its contours, so this meeting has brought greater clarity and momentum to the path ahead. The Steering Committee gives thanks for the progress made and renews its commitment to this work of reconciliation, memory, and evangelization.
All are invited to accompany this awakening through prayer, support, and pilgrimage. May the Church of Mount Bokor rise again as a sign of hope for Cambodia and for all who seek the living God in the silence of the mountains.
